Alice Hoi-ching Yeung is a composer-performer from Hong Kong, currently based in between Switzerland and the Netherlands. Her works are highly acclaimed as “unravelling sound and fragility, unpredictable with electrifying perfection” by the Il Sole 24 Ore Review in Milan. She works in the field of contemporary music composition, théâtre musical directing, videography, experimental her-own-vocals, audiovisual installation, and any grey areas in between. With the influences under Hong Kong film and metal music, her works are prone to show what is fun for her to do, that brings her whimsical mind to life with a punch of dark humour.
Yeung’s music has been internationally featured in professional presentations, such as La Biennale di Venezia, De Doelen Rotterdam (Stichting Rizoom), Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Radio France, New European Ensemble, Gaudeamus Festival, Orkest de Ereprijs, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, ICTUS Ensemble, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, among others. Throughout her career, Alice Yeung has been recognised for her exceptional talent and received numerous awards, grants, and fellowships. These accolades include her being the featured composer of Hong Kong Sinfonietta in Festival Internacional de Música de Marvão, music and stage dramaturgy consultant by Hong Kong Education Bureau Art Division; winning the call for score of Sakamoto:Reload by EnsembleTaG (Switzerland); active grants recipient of the Hong Kong Art Development Council, Composers and Authors Society Hong Kong Ltd., Hong Kong Culture Sports and Tourism Bureau. Besides her music, her short film ‘sans-visage’ was screened in Concours Nicati 2025 as a finalist.
After graduating from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, she obtained her first master’s in composition study at Royal Conservatoire The Hague, studying with Jan van de Putte and Yannis Kyriakides. Yeung is currently finishing her pre-doctorate Research in Arts diploma and second master’s degree at Bern University of the Arts specialising in Composition Creative Practice, where she dedicates her practice to contemporary music composition and théâtre musical performance under the supervision of Simon Steen-Andersen and Franziska Baumann. During her education journey and being an active composer in Europe, she dedicates her free time offering music theory and aural training tutorship to the next generation musicians since 2017. Yeung is currently an active member of an emerging Swiss music theatre collective — CUTensemble, participating as video artist and light designer.
